Mining for trees in a graph is NP-complete

چکیده
Of course, the even more general problem where the pattern is a graph is already well-known to be NP-complete, as it contains the well-known NP-complete Subgraph Isomorphism problem as the special case k = 1. We thus see here that restricting to tree patterns does not lower the worst-case complexity. The NP-completeness of Disjoint Occurrences of T3 follows immediately from the NP-completeness of the following problem: (a graph is called cubic if every node has degree 3, i.e., has edges to precisely 3 other nodes)

Just chromatic exellence in fuzzy graphs
A fuzzy graph is a symmetric binary fuzzy relation on a fuzzy subset. The concept of fuzzy sets and fuzzy relations was introduced by L.A.Zadeh in 1965cite{zl} and further studiedcite{ka}. It was Rosenfeldcite{ra} who considered fuzzy relations on fuzzy sets and developed the theory of fuzzy graphs in 1975. The concepts of fuzzy trees, blocks, bridges and cut nodes in fuzzy graph has been studi...
متن کاملOn two-dimensional Cayley graphs
A subset W of the vertices of a graph G is a resolving set for G when for each pair of distinct vertices u,v in V (G) there exists w in W such that d(u,w)≠d(v,w). The cardinality of a minimum resolving set for G is the metric dimension of G. This concept has applications in many diverse areas including network discovery, robot navigation, image processing, combinatorial search and optimization....
متن کاملTenacity and some other Parameters of Interval Graphs can be computed in polynomial time
In general, computation of graph vulnerability parameters is NP-complete. In past, some algorithms were introduced to prove that computation of toughness, scattering number, integrity and weighted integrity parameters of interval graphs are polynomial. In this paper, two different vulnerability parameters of graphs, tenacity and rupture degree are defined. In general, computing the tenacity o...
متن کاملPartitionability to two trees is NP-complete
We show that P2T-the problem of deciding whether the edge set of a simple graph can be partitioned into two trees or not-is NP-complete. It is a well known that deciding whether the edge set of a graph can be partitioned into k spanning trees or not is in P [1]. Recently András Frank asked what we know about partitioning the edge set of a graph into k (not necessarily spanning) trees. One can e...
متن کاملHardness of the Maximum Union-of-Closures Problem
The maximum closure problem of a vertex-weighted directed graph is a classical optimization problem. Motivated by image segmentation and data mining applications, we consider a variant that computes the maximum union of closures of two different graphs on a shared vertex set. We show that the problem is NP-hard to approximate within a bounded approximation ratio even for trees.
